Web Site Editor Program Instructions

The Web Site Editor Program has a lot of the same functionality of a word processor thus making the editing of your web site very simple.

PLEASE NOTE: Most functions contained in the web site editor are initiated by first highlighting the the text you are working on OR by placing the cursor in the spot on the page that you want to enter text or an image. You can switch an editing option ON or OFF by choosing the text or image that you want to work on and then choosing a function from the Navigation Bar Items.

Paragraph Break vs Line Break: To start a new paragraph just click your ENTER button on your keyboard, but if you just want to drop down one line (line break) then hold down your shift key and then click you ENTER button. The line break function is most often used when putting text directly under images.

Explanation of Navigation Bar Items

Font Button: To change the font type on text, first highlight the text you want to change and choose the new font type using this button. (Note: The default font style applied by the Web Editor Program is "Verdana".)

Font Style Button: Highlight the text you would like to change then choose a new style using this button. To change the style format back to the original style, highlight the text and choose the same style to undo. Font Styles include: bold, italic, underline, super script and sub script.

Font Size Button: To make the fonts larger/smaller highlight the text and choose a lower number to make them smaller and a larger number to make them bigger. To change them again repeat the same process.

Font Color Button: Highlight the text on which you would like to change color and choose a new font color using the list attached to this button. To change the text back to black, highlight the font and choose the color black from the dropdown list. (Note: The default font color applied by the Web Editor Program is "black".)

Align/Indent Button: Just like a word processor, this function gives you the ability to: indent a paragraph or outdent back to the margin, add lists (numbered or unnumbered) or move the text to the left, right or to the center of the page. To use this function first choose the text by highlighting and then choose the option you would like to apply.

Image Button: To add an image to your web page it first must be uploaded to the server to make it viewable to the public. To upload an image to the server please make sure the image is loaded on your computer. You can then use the Image Button to BROWSE your computer to choose your image and once chosen just click OK. The image name will show up in the Choose File box and you can now click Start Upload.

When the image has completed uploading you will get a pop up window that says: "Ready, go back." Clicking that button allows you to go to the drop down list of images from which you can select an image to insert on your page.

You can then format your image position by clicking on the image and then use the Align/Indent button for positioning. There are also other options available, like wrapping text around and image, by using the MODIFY function.

Please Note: We suggest that your image be no larger then 2 ½" - 3" wide or 250 - 300 pixels wide. If you choose to use larger images you may cause your web page to be larger then the browser window and cause your visitors to have to scroll right to see the entire image. Also, larger photos take much longer to upload to the server and for your viewers to see. Many won't wait around for extremely large images to load.

The "--" Button: This button inserts a horizontal bar across the web page to separate text and photos. To add a horizontal bar just click on the "--" button. To remove a bar simply back space and the bar will be gone.

Link Button: This give you the ability to add a link to another web page or web site or add an e-mail link to text or photos. Choose the text or photo by highlighting it and then click the link button. Choose the option http:// for links to other websites or the mailto: link to add an e-mail address links.
